The Botanical Beauty - what to See in the Garden
The Royal Botanical Gardens also known as Peradeniya Gardens is located in the Central Province.
This is the largest garden in Sri Lanka. It is home to an impressive collection of plants and trees with over 4000 different species of fauna spread over spacious 147 acres.
This is the best way to experience some of the rarities and unique plants present within the Gardens. Here are around ten thousand plants & trees inclusive of 4000 labeled species.
Tips: The Garden is open to the public all 365 days of the year from 7.30 am to 5.00 pm.
Must visit places at the site
There are certain areas within the Gardens that are a must-visit. These include the Spice Garden, full of exotic spices, some of which are unique to Sri Lanka.

The Orchid House includes multiple varieties of orchids, some of which can only be found in the Gardens.
The Great Circle is a grassy central extending over 4 acres in extent and around the circle is a diverse array of trees planted by dignitaries.
You can also visit the natural pavilion formed by a Javan fig tree. This tree covers 1600 sq. meters.

The palm avenues are such an impressive sight with some palms reaching over 20 m.
There is a large collection of Bamboo trees including imported faunas. The park holds bamboo plants that are over 30 m high.
Tips: Buy tickets only from the main entrance.
