Keep your eyes peeled - It's time for safari


Ridiyagama safari camp is the newest addition to the wildlife reserves in Sri Lanka, This is a man made Park and the Sri Lanka’s first drive-through safari park.

The 500-acre park is home to various wild animals. This park has divided into six different zones. Animals are living in artificial homes that are demarcated by huge fences. All animals have a separate cage that expands over many hectares.

This located at Ridiyagama, Sothern Province.

Tip :Mid-day is not the best time to see animals in the park, because animals move rarely when the heat is high. 



Why Ridiyagama is different?

Thus, this is the open zoological garden, you can tour the park by bus or a safari jeep while watching the animals roam freely.

Ridiyagama safari park is the first of its kind in Southern Asia and the only one of its kind in Sri Lanka. It is opened to the Public since 2016.

The tour allows us to witness a large number of live, wild animals such as lions, elephants, Zebra, Giraffes, tigers, Bactrian camels, Indian blue bulls and African cape buffaloes, and much more.  You can visit 22 species of animals here.

You can gather incredible unique experiences here. In the elephant zone, you can find that the  Sri Lankan elephants live in harmony with African giant elephants. So,  you are able to see these two different elephant species carrying totally different genes, grazing shoulder-to-shoulder in one park.

There is a 16-acre service station, a 54-acre Sri Lankan elephant encloser, 80 acres, 80 acres for herbivorous animals, and a 35-acre lion encloser which all are open to the public. 

The Park is to be expanded by including new areas for leopards, bears, Australian beasts, and reptiles.

                                                                              
                                                                                                          
  

Tip: you need to buy entrance tickets as well as rent a vehicle for the safari



A good experience for Children


Here the visitors can have a mixed experience of a zoo and a sanctuary. You can rent an air-conditioned bus here. Thus, it is comfortable to ride and hassle-free of animal attacks.


I can say it is 100% better than a general zoo, where most animals are crammed into small cages. Ridiyagama is more like a huge wildlife reserve. 


It only takes about a 1-hour drive through the forested park. So, it is a great opportunity to spot a large number of animals within a short period of time.it is very easy to spot the animals from a distance due to the flat surface of the ground.       

Tip : To maximize your trip, combine your visit to the safari with nearby attractions in Hambantota like Mirijjawila Botanical Garden, the Birds Park or Madunagala hot wells





Tip: Sri Lankan people do not need to travel to Africa to see African animals again. Just use the Sothern expressway to reach.
